Textron Systems awarded contract to build 36 new SHADOW® aircraft for the U.S Army

Hunt Valley, MD. December 2, 2020– Textron Systems Corporation, a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company, announced today the sale of 36 Shadow aircraft in the latest Block III configuration to the U.S. Army.

The total contract award value of $66 million includes ongoing engineering services to continue fielding and supporting the new Block III system configuration.

The Shadow Block III system builds on the proven success of previous configurations.

The upgraded system incorporates design improvements, allowing for increased availability to operate in adverse weather conditions, the latest high-definition day-and-night video payload, increased engine power and reliability with a reduced acoustic signature, enhanced manned-unmanned teaming with the Army's Apache assets and an advanced communications relay.

The Shadow Block III system is ready and able to provide aerial support to our customers, even in the most challenging of environments.

Novadem a annoncé le 17 juin que son drone NX70 avait été sélectionné par le Ministère des Armées pour venir équiper les soldats français déployés en opérations extérieures. Plus de 50 micro-drones auraient ainsi été commandés par la DGA, pour un montant d'un peu plus de 2 M€. « Chacun des 27 systèmes acquis est composé de deux micro-drones, d'un segment sol et du soutien technique associé », a détaillé l'entreprise aixoise. Les premiers systèmes ont d'ores et déjà été remis à la DGA et ont été évalués par la STAT (Section Technique de l'Armée de Terre). Ces drones viendront équiper les soldats de l'Armée de Terre afin de renforcer leurs moyens de détection et ainsi les doter d'outils d'observation leur permettant de mieux appréhender leur environnement tactique. « Au-delà de ses capacités de détection et de reconnaissance de jour et de nuit, le NX70 peut être doté de capacités étendues lui permettant, par exemple, d'assurer des missions d'observation de plusieurs heures gr'ce à son dispositif d'alimentation en énergie depuis le sol via un c'ble libérable en plein vol », détaille Novadem. Petit drone tactique pesant environ 1 kilo, le NX70 dispose d'une portée de 3 km et d'une autonomie de 45 minutes.     Raytheon plows ahead to build US Army’s future radar

    By: Jen Judson WASHINGTON — The first antenna array for the U.S. Army's Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor passed through initial testing at Raytheon's Massachusetts-based facility, and it will embark on future testing at an outdoor range in the short term, a company official told Defense News. The antenna array went into an indoor, climate-controlled test range, and its performance was evaluated against simulated targets, Bob Kelley, Raytheon's director of domestic integrated air and missile defense programs for business development and strategy, said during a March 16 interview. The technology “came out fantastic on the other side,” he added. Now the array will be mounted on a precision-machined enclosure for integration, Kelley said, and then it will head to a range for testing with real-world targets such as air traffic coming in and out of Boston's Logan International Airport. Raytheon is plowing ahead with an aggressive schedule to deliver the first LTAMDS radar to the Army next year. So far it's on track and on schedule. The company finished building the first radar antenna array in less than 120 days after being selected for the job, following a competition to replace the service's Patriot air and missile defense system sensor. The radar will become a part of the service's future Integrated Air and Missile Defense System that will replace the entire Patriot system. Raytheon also manufactures the Patriot. Raytheon has taken its years of experience refining gallium nitride technology at its Massachusetts-based foundry to help design a new radar system that will provide the Army 360-degree threat detection capability in a configuration that includes one large array in the front and two smaller arrays in the back. The contract is worth roughly $384 million to deliver six production-representative units of the LTAMDS. The Army is working to rapidly deliver initial capability under an urgent materiel release.
