Dans une vaste enquête, Air & Cosmos pointe les fortes tensions qui pèsent sur les flottes de l'armée française, en particulier dans le secteur stratégique de la chasse. Si au Sahel, 58% des frappes aériennes en 2020 ont été réalisées par des drones Reaper, cette efficacité apparait en partie due à la nature asymétrique du conflit qui se joue dans la bande sahélo-saharienne. Or, la plupart des autres conflits nécessiteront probablement des chasseurs, polyvalents, réactifs et adaptables. Dans ce contexte, l'Armée de l'Air et de l'Espace (AAE), qui s'est vu prélever 12 appareils à destination de la Grèce, fait face à une réduction de ses équipements, alors qu'au moins 12 autres avions devraient suivre afin d'honorer le contrat passé avec la Croatie. Une situation qui, d'après Air & Cosmos met à mal la situation de l'AAE, fragilisée par le manque de personnels (ses effectifs ont décru de 25% en quelques années) et les ponctions export. Une situation qui justifierait l'établissement d'un plan d'urgence pour assurer la modernisation et la soutenabilité des équipements des armées françaises.

Spirit AeroSystems temporarily suspends Boeing work in some facilities
By: The Associated Press WICHITA, Kan. — Aircraft parts maker Spirit AeroSystems announced Tuesday that it is temporarily halting work for Boeing that is performed in Wichita, Kansas, and two Oklahoma facilities amid an outbreak of the new coronavirus. The move came after Boeing announced Monday that it was suspending operations at its Seattle, Washington, area facilities. At least 110 people have died from COVID-19 in Washington state, mostly in the Seattle area. Boeing employs about 70,000 people in the region. The company said 32 employees have tested positive for the virus, including 25 in the greater Seattle area. At Spirit, military, non-Boeing work and other programs will continue. In Oklahoma, the suspension affects facilities in Tulsa and McAlester. Spirit will continue to support 787 work for Boeing's Charleston, South Carolina, facility. Spirit did not say how many employees would be affected, but the suspension begins Wednesday and will last until April 8. Employees will continue to be paid during the two-week period. Lockheed Aims For Laser On Fighter By 2025
SYDNEY J. FREEDBERG JR. How do you keep a laser focused on a target moving at hundreds of miles per hour? The answer is crucial to Lockheed lasers being fitted on Army trucks and Air Force fighters over the next few years. WASHINGTON: “Lockheed Martin is working to fly a laser on tactical fighters within the next five years,” Lockheed laser expert Mark Stephen told reporters yesterday afternoon. “We're spending a lot of time to get the beam director right.” That beam director, which keeps the laser beam on target, is a crucial but easily overlooked component of future laser weapons. The Air Force Research Lab's SHiELD program aims to put defensive laser pod on fighters to defend them against incoming anti-aircraft missiles. An offensive laser to shoot down enemy aircraft would have to hit harder and at longer distances, so it's a more distant goal: Such weapons are envisioned for a future “sixth generation” fighter — like the NGAD prototype now in flight test — to follow the 5th-gen F-35, while the SHiELD pod will go on non-stealthy 4th gen aircraft like the F-16, as in this Lockheed video.
