  Thales and MKU to co-develop the Elfie Night Vision Device for India and the world

  Lucknow, February 7, 2020 - Taking the association a step ahead, Thales and MKU today announced the co-development of the ELFIE Night Vision Device (NVD) for the armed forces in India and across the world on the sidelines of DefExpo 2020. With this, both companies have further solidified the MoU signed in 2018 for strategic co-operation on developing optronic devices. This co-operation involves co-development of these devices at MKU's facility in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. A lightweight monocular with the widest field of view, ELFIE provides unprecedented mobility and night combat capability. Whether hands-free (on a face mask or helmet mount) or weapon-mounted, ELFIE is suitable for left or right eye use and provides stereoscopic vision in binocular configuration. ELFIE is ideal for vehicle-driving and for paratroopers and special forces operators. When mounted on a weapon, it provides a red dot sight or laser pointer to the user. The integration of the first pre-series of ELFIE at MKU's facility in Kanpur is expected to be completed in the first trimester of 2020. A true model of the “Made in India” ELFIE night vision device is expected to be available in the first trimester of 2021. “We are enthusiastic about taking our strategic association forward with MKU with the co-development of ELFIE.   Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems, Embraer and Atech sign a contract to build Brazilian

  March 5, 2020 - On March 5th, in Rio de Janeiro, Emgepron, an independent state company, linked to the Ministry of Defense through the Brazilian Navy Command, and Águas Azuis, a company created by thyssenkrupp Marine Systems, Embraer Defense & Security and Atech, signed the contract for building four state-of-the-art Tamandaré Class Ships, with deliveries scheduled between 2025 and 2028. The construction will take place 100% in Brazil, in Itajaí, Santa Catarina State, and is expected to have local content rates above 30% for the first vessel and 40% for the others. Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems will supply the naval technology of its proven MEKO® Class shipbuilding platform of defence vessels that is already in operation in 15 countries. Embraer will integrate sensors and weaponry into the combat system, bringing also to the program its 50 years' experience in systems technology solutions and in-service support. Atech, an Embraer Group company, will be the supplier of the CMS (Combat Management System) and IPMS (Integrated Platform Management System, from L3 MAPPS), and the recipient of technology transfer in cooperation with ATLAS ELEKTRONIK, a thyssenkrupp Marine Systems subsidiary that produces the CMS and sonar systems. Afin de permettre une bonne coopération entre les cinq consortiums d'avionneurs pressentis et l'industrie suisse, cinq journées de contacts seront organisées en octobre à Lausanne et à Berne par le Bureau des offsets de Berne, Swissmem / SWISS ASD (Aeronautics, Security and Defence) et le Groupe romand pour le matériel de défense et de sécurité (GRPM). Tant pour les avionneurs que pour l'industrie suisse, l'objectif des 100% de participations (ou offsets ou compensations) constitue une t'che exigeante et ambitieuse. Elle exige des contacts initiaux intenses ainsi que des échanges d'informations systématiques. D'une part les avionneurs doivent communiquer sur les opportunités de participations industrielles jusqu'au moins de janvier dans le cadre de leur réponse à l'appel d'offres et d'autre part les entreprises suisses doivent annoncer leurs compétences*. Les cinq avionneurs sont les suivants : Airbus (Eurofighter), Boeing (F/A-18 E Super Hornet), Dassault (Rafale), Lockheed Martin (F-35A) et Saab (Gripen E). Afin de lancer la coopération entre les avionneurs et l'industrie suisse, le Bureau des offsets de Berne associé à Swissmem / SWISS ASD et au GRPM organisent deux journées de contacts en octobre à Berne et Lausanne pour chaque avionneur. La partie principale est constituée de meetings individuels (business-to-business) entre les entreprises suisses et les consortiums des avionneurs (avionneurs, fournisseurs, partenaires, etc). Plus de 80 entreprises suisses se sont annoncées pour chacune des manifestations à Berne et Lausanne.
