  La ministre de la Défense Anand visite le Royaume-Uni pour approfondir la relation de défense

  Le 27 juin 2023 – Ottawa (Ontario) – Défense nationale/Forces armées canadiennes La ministre de la Défense nationale, l’honorable Anita Anand, sera au Royaume-Uni du 27 au 29 juin 2023. Pendant son séjour, la ministre rencontrera le secrétaire d’État à la Défense du Royaume‑Uni, le très honorable Ben Wallace, et d’autres responsables britanniques, de sorte à discuter des efforts visant à soutenir l’Ukraine, à promouvoir l’ordre international fondé sur des règles et à développer la solide relation de défense qu’entretiennent le Canada et le Royaume‑Uni. Le 28 juin, la ministre Anand visitera l’école de Liphook pour rencontrer des élèves qui effectuent des recherches sur l’entraînement canadien réalisé au Royaume-Uni durant la Première Guerre mondiale. Elle tiendra également une réunion bilatérale avec le porte-parole de l’opposition officielle en matière de défense, le très honorable John Healey, et des représentants de BAE Systems. Le 29 juin, la ministre Anand visitera le camp d’entraînement militaire de Lydd pour rencontrer des membres des Forces armées canadiennes en déploiement au Royaume-Uni en vue d’entraîner le personnel des forces armées ukrainiennes dans le cadre de l’opération UNIFIER du Canada. Par après, elle adressera la parole à des membres du Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) – groupe de réflexion sur les questions de défense et de sécurité. Le 29 juin, la ministre tiendra aussi une réunion bilatérale avec le secrétaire d’État Wallace et participera à un point de presse conjoint avec ce dernier. Enfin, la ministre prononcera une allocution lors d’une réception à l’occasion de la fête du Canada, à la Maison du Canada. Le 29 juin 2023 (heure locale) 13 h.   Chief of the Defence Staff announces new Deputy Commander North American Aerospace Defense Command

  June 1, 2023 – Ottawa, Ontario – National Defence / Canadian Armed Forces General Wayne Eyre, Chief of the Defence Staff, has announced the second Lieutenant-General/Vice-Admiral promotion of 2023. Major-General B.F. Frawley was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-General and will be appointed Deputy Commander North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) in Colorado Springs, Colorado, replacing Lieutenant-General A.J.P. Pelletier who will retire from the Canadian Armed Forces. NORAD is a bi-national military command responsible for aerospace warning, aerospace control, and maritime warning for Canada and the United States. It is the cornerstone of Canada’s defence relationship with the United States and provides both countries with greater continental security than could be achieved individually. The NORAD Deputy Commander supports the NORAD Commander in the execution of the command’s missions. As a bi-national command, the NORAD Deputy Commander’s position is approved by both Canada and the United States. Across our nations, Canadians and Americans monitor and defend North American airspace 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. This is a military relationship like no other—one based on common values, friendship, and a lasting unbreakable bond. The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), through its evolving promotion process, continues to choose inclusive leaders who embody its professional values and ethos. Promotion candidates complete an evidence-based character assessment followed by a “360 degree” evaluation known as a multi-rater assessment. This approach uses a diverse group of evaluators to reduce bias and foster diverse perspectives to obtain a holistic perspective of the candidate’s leadership behaviour and effectiveness. Additionally, the promotion candidate is subject to an interview conducted by a third party, external to the Department of National Defence and CAF, which focuses on personal experiences, self-awareness, past challenges, failures, and successes.   Over the past months, over 30 projects from the Competitive Projects' first Call for Proposals have advanced to Component 1b and signed $1M dollar contracts with IDEaS. In the upcoming weeks, many more are going to be posted on our web page. Competitive Projects Funding Recipients (as of December 2019) Additionally, Innovation Networks have signed 12 contribution agreements valued at nearly $18M to fund small research networks, or Micro-nets. These research communities will increase Canadian scientific capacity in a number of areas like advanced materials (detection avoidance and physical protection), and autonomous systems (trust and barriers to adoption). See the all newly signed recipients: Innovation Networks – Recently Funded Micro-Nets Corrosion Sandbox: Rust Never Sleeps Test your best technologies to find corrosion trouble spots for the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN). The next IDEaS sandbox will take place at the Centre for Ocean Ventures & Entrepreneurship (COVE) facility in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and will focus on corrosion detection on naval vessels. COVE is a collaborative facility for applied innovation in the ocean sector. Participants will get the opportunity to showcase their products on realistic simulations, with successful demonstrations resulting in access to an actual RCN vessel to demonstrate their solution in a real world environment.
