  SCAF : le Sénat apporte ses propositions pour le renforcer

  Au Sénat, la commission des Affaires étrangères, de la défense et des forces armées présidée par le sénateur (LR) Christian Cambon, a présenté le 15 juillet un rapport d'information sur « le système de combat aérien du futur » (SCAF). Présenté par ses rapporteurs Ronan Le Gleut (LR) et Hélène Conway-Mouret (PS), ce rapport propose plusieurs recommandations afin de faire en sorte que ce programme de défense soit « irréversible ». Pour cela, les auteurs préconisent la signature début 2021 « d'un contrat-cadre global » qui courrait jusqu'en 2025-2026, couvrant la première phase du projet qui doit aboutir à un démonstrateur d'avion. Ce qui éviterait la succession de contrats demandant à chaque fois une validation politique. Les sénateurs estiment par ailleurs que la France, l'Allemagne et l'Espagne doivent élargir leur projet et faire entrer de nouveaux partenaires européens. Notamment pour faire face au programme concurrent « Tempest », mené par les Britanniques. Toutefois les sénateurs préconisent d'attendre 2026, avec le lancement du démonstrateur.   The Corps wants lighter body armor for counterinsurgency conflicts

  By: Shawn Snow The Corps wants new lighter body armor to give commanders more flexibility in low-intensity conflicts on the battlefields of places like Iraq and Afghanistan. The Marines posted a request for information, or RFI, Wednesday to seek out industry support in fielding a new, lighter body armor that will complement the Enhanced Small Arms Protective Insert, or ESAPI, plates already fielded by Marines. According to the RFI, the Corps is seeking new armor to provide “protection from non-armor piercing rounds that are currently prevalent in counterinsurgency operations and other low intensity threat environments.” “Our current ESAPI plates do an amazing job of protecting Marines and have saved many lives,” Nick Pierce, Individual Armor team lead, program manager of Infantry Combat Equipment at Marine Corps Systems Command, said in a command release. “The only problem is Marines are currently given a binary choice between taking on 15 pounds to be protected or zero pounds and very little protection.   DISA awards $199 million contract for cloud security

  Andrew Eversden WASHINGTON — The U.S. Defense Information Systems Agency awarded its first production other transaction authority contract on Aug. 20, the agency announced. The production OTA contract, with a ceiling of about $199 million, was awarded to By Light Professional IT Services to support the Defense Department's Cloud Based Internet Isolation program. The contract has a one-year base with four one-year options. The Cloud Based Internet Isolation program falls under the purview of DISA. It's meant to reduce the risks involved with non-mission-essential internet browsing by isolating the browser in the cloud instead of on the user end point. Isolation in the cloud is meant to prevent malicious code or content from accessing Pentagon networks. “By partnering with industry, DISA's CBII team determined a means to transform how [the Department of Defense] defends against internet web browser-based threats,” the DISA news release read. “This partnership will provide direct support to our nation's warfighters by providing cybersecurity within the cloud while protecting the warfighter's electronic devices from exposure to direct threats.” https://www.c4isrnet.com/disa/2020/08/21/disa-awards-199-million-contract-for-cloud-security
