Boeing to temporarily suspend Philadelphia area operations

Boeing is temporarily suspending production operations at its facilities in Ridley Township, Penn., in light of the company's continuous assessment of the spread of COVID-19 in the region. This action is intended to ensure the well-being of employees, their families and local communities, and will include an orderly shutdown consistent with requirements of U.S. and global defence customers.

Boeing will suspend operations beginning at the end of day on Friday, April 3. The site includes manufacturing and production facilities for military rotorcraft, including the H-47 Chinook, V-22 Osprey and MH-139A Grey Wolf. Defence and commercial services work and engineering design activities are also performed at the site.

The suspension of operations will last two weeks, with return to work on April 20. During the suspension, Boeing will continue to monitor government guidance and actions on COVID-19 and associated impacts on company operations. The company will conduct additional deep cleaning activities at buildings across the site and establish rigorous criteria for return to work.

“Suspending operations at our vital military rotorcraft facilities is a serious step, but a necessary one for the health and safety of our employees and their communities,” said Steve Parker, Vertical Lift vice-president and general manager, and Philadelphia site senior executive. “We're working closely with government and public health officials in the tri-state region. We're also in contact with our customers, suppliers and other stakeholders affected by this temporary suspension as we assist in the national effort to combat the spread of COVID-19.”

Philadelphia area employees who can work from home will continue to do so. Those who cannot work remotely will receive paid leave for the 10 working days – double the normal company policy.

When the suspension is lifted, Boeing Philadelphia will restart production in an orderly manner with a focus on safety, quality and meeting customer commitments. This is a key step to enabling the recovery of the defence and aerospace sectors.

Manifestement satisfaite du travail des équipes de Safran Helicopter Engines, l'Armée de l'Air royale danoise vient de confier le MCO des moteurs Arriel 1D1 de 11 Airbus Helicopters AS550C2 Fennec à la filiale du groupe Safran dans le cadre du contrat de soutien "Global Support Package" jusqu'au retrait du service de ce parc d'Airbus Helicopters prévu pour la mi-2030. Le contrat de soutien s'engage à des garanties en matière de budget prévisionnel, de coûts fixes à l'heure de vol et "de partenariat technique avec le constructeur". Safran Helicopter Engines assure déjà depuis juillet 2016 le MCO des moteurs RTM322 des 14 hélicoptères Merlin de l'Armée de l'Air royale danoise. Plus de 75 moteurs bénéficient de ce contrat.     Here’s when industry can expect to hear more on the Army’s tactical cloud

    By: Mark Pomerleau The Army plans to respond to more than 70 proposals from industry on how to best take advantage of the tactical cloud before the end of the year. As part of the service's efforts to modernize its tactical communications and network, the program office and the network cross functional team hosted an industry day in August in Raleigh, North Carolina. Army leaders discussed how to tell industry about the service's goals and to learn more about what industry can offer. Army officials described the industry day as market research, noting that contracts might not come out of it. “This is a technical exchange to help the Army solve complex problems,” Maj. Gen. Peter Gallagher, director of the network cross functional team told the audience during the August event. “This will not work without dialogue.” The Army received 78 white papers in response to the two day tactical cloud event, according to an Oct. 17 tweet from Program Executive Office Command, Control, Communications – Tactical. Army leaders expect to finish reviewing the white papers by the end of October and plan to respond in late November. Moreover, an Oct. 17 posting on the Federal Business Opportunities website noted that vendors with promising capability will receive an invitation for a no cost demo, around December and January. At these demonstrations, the posting said vendors will show their capability focused on three aspects; - Technical maturity - Operational relevance - Technical ability to integrate into the Army's network design Vendors will be expected to answer technical questions from a panel of government technical, program and operational subject matter experts, the post said, with government assessment leads presenting the demonstrations to the CFT and C3T leadership. “As part of these outcomes, the Army will develop an experimentation/assessment plan as well as identification of possible resourcing for promising capabilities.
