Analysis: Canada pressured by allies to up military spending

Canada is expected to boost military spending after a government review next month, but the increase is unlikely to comfort allies facing new threats and it could further undermine the country's international military credibility, policy analysts said.

Federal budget resurrects 'economic harm' warning as fighter jet contract nears | CBC News
Defence contractors, perhaps one in particular, were served notice in Monday's budget that the Liberal government will penalize companies that try to do the country economic harm. The policy was a feature of a nasty trade dispute between Ottawa and U.S.-based Boeing over three years ago. Its resurrection comes as Boeing is one of the bidders for the replacement of the RCAF's fighters.

Canadian Coast Guard’s Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ships
As part of its fleet renewal plan, the Canadian Coast Guard is acquiring two Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ships (AOPS) to replace two of the five existing offshore patrol vessels. The new AOPS will support offshore patrol of international fisheries surveillance and Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization patrols, and offshore search and rescue on Canada’s east coast and in the Arctic.
