Introducing Leonardo and Codemar S.A., a new joint venture focused on security and resilience, infrastructure management, and helicopter-based services

Rio de Janeiro, February 12, 2020 - Leonardo, the Italian-headquartered aerospace and security multinational, through its subsidiary Leonardo International, which was set up to support the Company's operations around the world, and Codemar, Companhia de Desenvolvimento de Maricá, have announced the creation of a joint venture named Leonardo&Codemar S.A., with 49% share of Codemar and 51% of Leonardo, established under Brazilian law.

The joint venture's objective is to become the flagship in the development and delivery of projects for urban security and resilience as well as new infrastructure and helicopter-based services that will boost the expertise of Brazilian industry. Through the implementation of a range of innovative and challenging projects, Maricá will become a “living lab” for the most exciting and promising technological applications contributing to the safety and quality of citizens' life, and the sustainable development within the area.

As of today, Leonardo&Codemar will setup joint project teams that, thanks to Leonardo broad product portfolio and advanced technological capabilities and Codemar knowledge of local requirements, aims to progressively become the partner of the Maricá Municipality and the natural recipient of request for projects and services within its business perimeter. The status of the preferred partner to the Municipality of Maricá will give Leonardo&Codemar access to similar projects as they arise throughout the Latin America region.

Leonardo and Codemar are joining up financial and technological resources with the intent of leveraging the best of both companies' experience and know-how to provide innovative products and services to the Municipality of Maricá. Thanks to its strategic location, Maricá is set to become a primary logistic base for Oil & Gas operations throughout the Country, with a huge potential for related businesses (i.e. financial, high tech and services) requiring the best and most reliable networked infrastructures. Similarly, a substantial tourist and residential development, facilitated by the proximity to Rio de Janeiro, will be pursued while respecting the City's spectacular and intact territory.

    Armasuisse a signé le contrat d’acquisition du système SkyView de Thales 

    DÉFENSE Air & Cosmos rappelle que la Suisse a choisi le système français SkyView de Thales dans le cadre de son programme « C2Air » qui vise à remplacer les sous-systèmes Ralus (système radar de situation aérienne) et Lunas (système de message de situation aérienne) dans le cadre de son système existant de surveillance aérienne et de contrôle des opérations des forces aériennes. Après une phase d'évaluation lors de laquelle trois systèmes différents ont été testés, armasuisse (Office fédéral de l'armement) avait opté, le 19 septembre 2019 pour le système SkyView. Le Parlement avait approuvé l'acquisition de ce système dans le cadre du message sur l'armée 2020. Le contrat d'acquisition avec le constructeur français a été signé début avril 2021. La réalisation interviendra dans les centres de calcul du DDPS (Département fédéral de la défense, de la protection de la population et des sports). Son introduction commencera aux alentours de 2025.     Singapore Airshow 2020: IAI takes aim at Singapore's next-gen UAV requirement with Heron MKII

    Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has taken the opportunity at Singapore Airshow 2020 to showcase its Heron MKII medium altitude long endurance unmanned aerial vehicle (MALE UAV) to the public for the first time, and has declared its intention to pitch the new air vehicle at a Singaporean requirement for next-generation UAVs. Moshe Levy, IAI's executive vice president and general manager of its Military Aircraft Group, told Jane's that the Heron MKII builds on the experience gained from developing the incumbent Heron 1 UAV and will offer improved performance via several airframe design and propulsion updates, although its general physical characteristics remain unchanged with an overall length and wingspan of 8.5 m and 16.6 m, respectively. Newly incorporated enhancements include a widened fuselage pod designed to accommodate a greater number of sensors and/or more powerful mission systems as well as a new propulsion configuration comprising the fully certified Rotax 915 iS 1,352 cc turbocharged four-stroke engine, which has a time before overhaul (TBO) rating of 1,200 hours. It also produces up to 135 hp at maximum continuous power and is coupled to a three-bladed variable-pitch pusher propeller. IAI claims that the new engine will provide the Heron MKII with a 50% improvement on the rate of climb over that of the Heron 1, as well as a 16.6% boost over the current maximum speed of 120 kt to 140 kt, although it retains a comparable loiter speed profile of between 60 and 80 kt. The new air vehicle's maximum take-off weight (MTOW) has also increased to 1,350 kg with a corresponding uptick in payload capacity to 470 kg.
