The gun systems, known as the Bofors 57 Mk3, will support the maritime arm of the Bundespolizei that monitors the country's North Sea and Baltic coastlines. The 57 Mk3 is a flexible, highly versatile gun system designed to react quickly for close-to-shore operations. “The Bofors 57 Mk3 is a versatile naval gun with firepower and range that exceeds expectations when compared with similar, medium calibre naval gun systems. That's how our 57 millimeter system has earned its reputation as the deck gun of choice for ships operating in coastal environments,” said Ulf Einefors, director of marketing and sales for BAE Systems' weapons business in Sweden. “This contract expands the number of European nations deploying the 57 Mk3 and reflects the growing interest we're seeing in the region, where we look forward to supporting new opportunities in the near future.” The 57 Mk3 naval gun is also in use with the allied navies and coast guards of eight nations, including Canada, Finland, Mexico, and Sweden, as well as the United States, where it is known as the Mk110 naval gun. This contract also includes accompanying fire control systems as well as systems integration support. Work is expected to begin immediately and will be performed at the BAE Systems facility in Karlskoga, Sweden. Rebekah Malone/Army National Guard) WASHINGTON — Latvia has been cleared by the U.S. State Department to buy four UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters, in a move to bolster the NATO nation's ability to move forces around the alliance's eastern flank. The sale has an estimated price tag of $200 million, which covers the four rotorcraft, 10 engines and associated equipment. As with all announcements by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, the sale must pass through the Senate, at which point negotiations can begin; total quantities and dollar totals often change from the original DSCA announcement and final sale. “This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping to improve the security of a NATO ally,” according to a DSCA statement. “These UH-60 helicopters will allow for interoperability with U.S. and NATO forces in rapid response to a variety of missions, and quick positioning of troops with minimal helicopter assets.” Full Article: https://www.defensenews.com/global/europe/2018/08/03/latvia-cleared-to-buy-black-hawks

    DEFENSE Focus sur le système « Vision », développé par Safran Electronics & Defense et Sodern La Tribune consacre un article au système de visée stellaire diurne et nocturne pour avions militaires, baptisé « Vision », développé par Safran Electronics & Defense et Sodern (filiale d'ArianeGroup). Ce système vise à être « permanent et totalement discret, sans émission de signaux radio électriques, et permettra une navigation précise et sûre, non tributaire de signaux de radionavigation (donc ni brouillable ni leurrable) et totalement souveraine », selon l'Agence de l'innovation de défense. « Ces viseurs d'étoiles diurnes permettront à nos aéronefs d'effectuer leur mission même lorsque les solutions de positionnement par satellites ne sont plus disponibles, comme cela peut malheureusement arriver sur nos thé'tres d'opérations », avait expliqué en juillet dernier la ministre des Armées, Florence Parly, dans un discours prononcé à Limeil-Brévannes au sein de Sodern. Lancé en 2016 par la DGA (Direction générale de l'armement), le projet vient de franchir une étape importante, avec la réalisation « d'essais au sol et en vol couronnés de succès », a récemment fait savoir l'Agence de l'Innovation de défense. Au terme de son développement, cet équipement permettra aux forces armées françaises de s'affranchir de toute dépendance aux systèmes de positionnement par satellites GNSS, notamment au GPS et à Galileo.
