  German army relies on Rohde And Schwarz

  Munich 22-Jul-2019 - IDZ-ES and the PUMA infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) for the VJTF 2023 are making a start on the end-to-end digital command radio link over the first mile using software defined radios from Rohde & Schwarz. The seamless command radio link for the PUMA armored infantry system with the infantryman of the future (IdZ-ES) for the Very High Readiness Joint Taskforce (VJTF) 2023 is provided by Rohde & Schwarz. With the Budget Committee of the German Lower House of German Parliament (Bundestag) having given its approval for the armored infantry system service package at the end of June, the necessary contracts for procurement have now also been completed. "This order is a milestone that we have reached after winning against international competitors in challenging trials and comparative tests set by the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) in 2018 in Munster, Germany," explained Hartmut Jäschke, Senior Vice President Market Segments Secure Communications Sales and Projects at Rohde & Schwarz. Its basis is the intention of the Bundeswehr to be ready with the PUMA IFV/armored infantry system and the latest version of IdZ-ES for NATO VJTF (Land) in 2023. Rohde & Schwarz is a subcontractor of Rheinmetall Electronics, which is responsible for the IdZ-ES system, and will supply the latest tactical software defined radios (SDR) together with suitable waveforms, integration, training and services. The SOVERON family works with the high data rate and interference-immune SOVERON WAVE waveforms for tactical rugged use on the first mile, and is thus an exact match for the spectrum of requirements of a battle group for territorial and collective defense as well as for international crisis management operations. All members of the SOVERON WAVE family of waveforms offer mobile ad hoc network (MANET) functionality. Radios equipped with this capability function as routers within the IP network group, forwarding the information via other communication nodes and thus ensuring that a robust, interference-immune link can be maintained under all circumstances. The Rohde & Schwarz VHF/UHF radio systems selected for this project will establish and maintain the command radio link with simultaneous voice and IP data from dismounted troops up to the platoon and company level. The systems concerned are handheld (SDHR/SOVERON HR) and vehicular radios (SDTR/SOVERON VR) that are interoperable with the German Armed Forces joint radio system (SVFuA, series name: SOVERON D) that has already been commissioned by the Bundeswehr and the SDR waveforms procured with it. The first batch of SOVERON D commissioned for command vehicles will be delivered to the troops in the first half of 2020. This interplay is also of great importance for future viability in the context of the Digitalization of Land Based Operations/Tactical Edge Networking (D-LBO/TEN) major project for highly secure and trusted interoperable connections that will only come into effect after VJTF 2023. SOVERON D also provides backward compatibility with the analog SEM radio infrastructure that will be in service for some time yet even though it is obsolete. This capability was also recently demonstrated in further tests. "With our innovative overall approach – SOVERON – we provide national trusted solutions that can be tailored to the customer's needs but which, due to their open architecture, are compatible with established radio systems and architectures and, at the same time, will be viable in the future," Mr. Jäschke continued. "It is an honor for us to bring into operation by the troops the latest state of the art for the VJTF. By doing so, we are not only paving the way for the next steps of D-LBO/TEN and for further strategic projects of the Bundeswehr. There are also significant synergies with the Telecommunications of the Army (TK A) project in Switzerland, comparable to the networking part of D-LBO/TEN.   Le dernier contrat militaire marocain suscite la vigilance en Espagne

  Le développement militaire que connaît le Maroc semble inquiéter les milieux espagnols concernés. Le journal El Confidencial lui consacre un long article. Médias24 fait une lecture critique de cette analyse espagnole. “Il n'y a plus de doute: le réarmement du Maroc est important, progressif et, même s'il est encore loin des effectifs de l'armée espagnole, il s'en rapproche de plus en plus. Le dernier achat d'armes du pays voisin confirme cette tendance: 25 nouveaux chasseurs F-16 et la modernisation de 23 autres“. C'est ainsi que commence l'article espagnol. Le ton est vite donné. La tendance générale de l'article consiste à attirer l'attention sur l'armement marocain et sa modernisation, tout en minimisant certains aspects. Par exemple, le Maroc aura 384 chars Abrams et non pas 200 comme indiqué. Le premier lot étant un A1 version SA à la marocaine. On peut considérer que ce premier lot est au même niveau que les derniers chars Leopard E de l'armée espagnole, avec des capacités technologiques, un blindage et des munitions dernier cri. Le deuxième lot Abrams sera constitué des A2. Les changements demandés par les FAR le situent au-dessus de son standard habituel ! Le Maroc surpassera avec ce lot, les capacités des blindés espagnols. Pour ce qui concerne les chars que l'auteur de l'article qualifie d'"obsolètes" en parlant des M60A3, T72 et MBT2000/VT1, il s'agit des chars de soutien qui peuvent faire mal aux blindés et transporteurs de troupes espagnols. Le Maroc dispose de plusieurs unités dites "Bataillons de Soutien Matériels", rodées pour le soutien logistique des troupes et matériels, réglant le problème de la maintenance et des pièces de rechange. Pour ce qui concerne l'aviation : En optant pour les F-16 avec AESA, le Maroc surpasse largement les capacités de l'aviation de chasse espagnole. L'auteur de l'article affirme que les capacités des Eurofighters/Typhoon dépassent celles des F16 avec l'argument que la plateforme des F-16 est ancienne et que les pilotes marocains ne sont pas bien formés ! En réalité, la plateforme de base des F-16 a évolué pour leur donner des capacités aérodynamiques plus agiles, et une signature radar dite RCS plus réduite, la petite taille de l'avion étant toujours en sa faveur. Par ailleurs, les pilotes marocains ont toujours eu une formation de très haut niveau, et sont réputés être de bons chasseurs. Exemple : Lors du dernier exercice Atlas 2018, les chasseurs espagnols ont utilisé leur fleuron, l'Eurofighter ! Ils ont pris une sacré défaite avec un score 5-1 en faveur des F-16 marocains, tout en faisant match nul 3-3 contre les Mirage F1 marocains. Dans les années 80, lors des manœuvres gigantesques organisées par les USA au Maroc, appelées Majestic Eagle, les avions Mirage marocains ont pu dépasser les défenses et la chasse américaine à deux reprises et toucher le porte-avion américain à la surprise totale des officiers américains qui découvraient pour la premier fois la plateforme Mirage. Autre erreur : l'auteur avance que les réservoirs supplémentaires dits CFT qui équipent les F16 des FRA, impactent leur agilité. En réalité, ceci a été démenti preuves à l'appui, par l'ensemble des pays utilisateurs notamment les pays de l'OTAN. Pour tout le reste, l'analyse est correcte.   Saab Receives Finnish Squadron 2020 Order

  September 26, 2019 - Saab has signed a contract with the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command, and received an order to provide and integrate the combat system for the Finnish Navy's new Pohjanmaa-class corvettes within the Squadron 2020 programme. This follows the previously announced selection on 19 September. The order value is 412 million Euro and the contract period is 2019-2027. The Finnish shipyard RMC Defence will build the Finnish Navy's four new corvettes, with construction 2022 to 2025. The corvettes will be fully operational by 2028. “We are proud that Finland has chosen Saab as combat system provider and integrator for their new corvettes. Saab has a long history in Finland and the Squadron 2020 contract means that we will increase our footprint in and deepen our relationship with Finland for many years to come”, says Micael Johansson, Senior Executive Vice President and Deputy CEO at Saab. The contract includes, among other things, Saab's Combat Management System (9LV) and Saab's radars Sea Giraffe 4A Fixed Face and Sea Giraffe 1X. The communication system TactiCall as well as the remote weapon station Trackfire, are also included in the contract. “This is going to be the world's most modern and advanced corvettes, with state of the art technology and capabilities, including the 9LV Combat Management System and the integrated mast featuring Saab's sophisticated Sea Giraffe 4A Fixed Face radar and the Sea Giraffe 1X radar”, continues Micael Johansson.
