12 à 20 Airbus H225M de plus pour l'Armée de l'Air ?

Airbus Helicopters continue de trouver preneur pour ses H225 initialement destinés au marché de l'off-shore. Cette fois, il s'agit de l'Armée de l'Air puisqu'un avis de pré-information ayant pour objet la "location-vente et le soutien de 12 à 20 hélicoptères EC-225 (ndlr: H225) d'occasion à modifier sous agrément au profit de l'armée de l'air et prestations associées" vient d'être diffusé. Ces Airbus Helicopters H225 seront reconvertis pour réaliser des missions spécifiques de type SAR (Search and Rescue) et de type FSI (Forces de Sécurité et d'intervention). La future implantation des futurs H225M sera des "bases aériennes en France métropolitaine et outre-mer ainsi qu'à l'étranger (Djibouti)". La procédure sera lancée en 2020. Airbus Helicopters a déjà réussi à replacer plus de la moitié de la centaine de H225 initialement destinés au marché de l'off-shore avec notamment deux gros contrats : celui passé par l'Ukraine en juillet 2018 pour un total de 21 exemplaires, l'autre par l'opérateur américain Air Center Helicopters qui a signé pour 17 H225 pour notamment le ravitaillement des navires de l'US Navy au large des côtes

    Air Force’s next GPS satellite ready to boost accuracy, anti-jamming capabilities

    By: Daniel Cebul Lockheed's Martin second GPS III satellite has passed all of the U.S. Air Force's technical and safety tests and is ready to be launched, likely in 2019, according to a company statement Aug. 21. The statement marks the formal designation that the satellite is “available for launch.” The first GPS III satellite was available for launch in September 2017 aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket and is set to liftoff from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida before the end of 2018. The next satellite will launch aboard a rocket from United Launch Alliance. The new satellite constellation is expected to be a significant improvement over the current generation of satellites. According to Harris Corp., the company that provides Lockheed Martin with the satellites navigation payload, the next-gen satellites are equipped with “a Mission Data Unit (MDU) with a unique 70 percent digital design that links atomic clocks, radiation-hardened computers and powerful transmitters." This allows for signals three times more accurate than those on current GPS satellites, the company said. In addition to being more accurate, the satellite is also eight times more resistant to jamming. This model also adds and maintains signals to ensure compatibility with Global Navigation Satellite Systems and provide stronger signal integrity. Harris also unveiled an upgraded payload in November 2017 to be used for the Air Force's GPS III Follow On (GPS IIIF) program, which will begin with the 11th GPS III satellite. This next-gen payload will grant the clock signal for a new GPS III Search and Rescue (SAR) payload, and extend the satellite's service life. Lockheed Martin is expected to be the prime contractor.     Saab starts Gripen production in Brazil

    Saab Aeronautica Montagens (SAM), Saab's first aerostructures plant outside of Sweden for the new Gripen E/F fighter, reached another important milestone recently with the start of production. This site builds sections of Gripen, which will then be delivered to the final assembly facilities at the Embraer plant in Gaviao Peixoto, Sao Paulo, Brazil and to Linkoping, Sweden. In 2014, Saab signed a contract with the Brazilian government for the development and production of 36 Gripen E/F aircraft. In September last year, the first Brazilian Gripen E aircraft was delivered to start the flight test program. Now, another milestone is reached, as Gripen production starts at the SAM plant, which is located in Sao Bernardo do Campo, a city in the metropolitan area of Sao Paulo in Brazil. The tail cone and front fuselage of the single-seat version of the Gripen fighter are the first aerostructures to enter into production at SAM. Subsequently, the aerodynamic brakes, rear fuselage, wing box and front fuselage for the two-seater version will also be manufactured at SAM. “This is another outcome of the transfer of technology (ToT) of the Gripen program. Based on theoretical and practical on-the-job training of Brazilian engineers and assemblers at Saab in Linkoping, we were able to establish a highly qualified production line at SAM, following the same standards that we have in our factory in Sweden,” said Jonas Hjelm, head of Saab's business area. Currently, SAM has more than 70 highly qualified employees, half of whom are participating or have already participated in the ToT Program in Sweden.
