  More funding endorsed for Evader aerial target missile system

  by Julian Kerr Additional funding has been endorsed, although not yet approved, to confirm the supersonic performance of the Australian-developed Evader autonomous aerial target missile system, sources close to the programme have disclosed. An application for a grant of AUD2.85 million (USD2.02 million) from the government's Defence Innovation Hub has been endorsed by both the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) and the Australian Army to fund a second series of flight trials for the low-cost, air-launched system, said the sources. A decision is expected shortly. Initial flight trials, funded by the Innovation Hub and carried out in 2018 at South Australia's Woomera range, validated the Evader's design, autonomous control system and stainless steel ramjet, and proved the parachute-recoverable, 4.2 m-long target missile could be re-used up to 10 times. Endurance of the 90 kg missile is about 30 minutes. While the initial trials were subsonic, the second series of trials will be low-supersonic following relocation of the variable air intake from the top to the bottom of the missile's fuselage.   India Increasingly Diversifying Its Arms, Weapons Purchases

  India was the world's second-largest importer of arms and weapons during 2015-2019, according to a report from Swedish-based think tank Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, or SIPRI. Saudi Arabia ranked as the top arms importer. Saudi Arabia, India, Egypt, Australia and China accounted for 36% of all arms imports over that five-year period. However, while Russia remained India's most important source of arms, Moscow's share of the Indian weapons market has dropped from 72% to 56% since the 2010-2014 period. Still, India accounted for 25% of all Russian arms exports. After Russia, Israel (14%) and France (12%) were the top sources of weapons for India. The U.S. was India's second-largest arms supplier during 2010-14 as security ties between the two huge countries grew into a strategic partnership. “However, in 2015-19 India continued with its policy of supplier diversification, and imports of arms from the U.S. were 51 % lower than in 2010-14," the report said. India has received a bewildering and diverse array of military equipment from many sources, including Scanter-6000 naval surveillance radar from Denmark; Embraer ERJ-145 jets for early warning and control system from Brazil; ACTAS sonar systems from Germany; Super Rapid 76-mm naval guns from Italy; and K-9 Thunder 155- mm artillery guns from South Korea. Still, overall arms imports by India and Pakistan declined by 32% and 39%, respectively, between 2010-14 and 2015-19.   Photonis est racheté par HLD

  Le holding d'investissement HLD a signé le rachat de Photonis, après le rejet de l'américain Teledyne par le ministère des Armées. La transaction s'élèverait à 370 millions d'euros environ. « Avec HLD, holding animé par Cédric Chateau qui détient également le spécialiste aéronautique Rafaut et qui n'a pas d'échéance de détention, Photonis trouve un actionnaire de long terme et sous capitaux familiaux européens », soulignent Les Echos. « La reprise de Photonis par HLD constitue une très bonne nouvelle, pour laquelle Florence Parly s'est impliquée personnellement », fait savoir le cabinet du ministère des Armées, cité par Le Figaro.
