  Damen making Progress with First two Contracts for the Combat Support Ship (CSS)

  March 27, 2020 - Even during the Corona crisis, Damen is committed to remaining operational in order to continue the important projects for the Defence sector. The first two contracts for the Combat Support Ship (CSS) for the Royal Netherlands Navy were signed earlier this week, with a modified working method in accordance with the current guidelines of the Netherlands National Institute for Public Health and Environment. RH Marine, leading system integrator and innovator of bridge systems, electrical and automation systems in the maritime industry, and Heinen & Hopman, worldwide specialist in the field of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems (HVAC + R systems), will immediately start engineering, while the first supplies of equipment for the CSS are expected by mid-2021. The Dutch subcontractors, our partners for all new construction projects for the Royal Netherlands Navy in recent decades, can now work together on more than 200 man-years of Dutch content. Together with Damen as main contractor and many other subcontractors participating, a large part of the Dutch naval shipbuilding sector are cooperating on this new and much needed ship. The delivery of the CSS is scheduled for the second quarter of 2024. A year later, in the second quarter of 2025, the CSS must be operational.   New partnerships formed in quest to snag US Army Stryker up-gunning deal

  by Ashley Roque Industry is bracing for surprise entries and team changes in the US Army's up-gunning competition with at least one big switch up: Pratt Miller partnering up with Rafael Defence and Oshkosh Defence. After a two-and-a-half-month deadline extension, all Medium Calibre Weapons System (MCWS) programme proposals and bid samples are due to the army on 24 August. Although many vendors are remaining tight lipped over whether they are still competing, Janes has confirmed with multiple, wholly separate, sources that Pratt Miller is no longer teaming up with CMI Defence and is now saddled up with Rafael and Oshkosh for its bid. The service declined to comment on any team changes and said specific vendor information, including system performance and on-going participation, are considered “source selection sensitive”. “The US [government] does not and has not provided vendor direction on who to partner with or what systems to utilise to protect the integrity of the competition,” Ashley John, director for public and congressional affairs for the Program Executive Office for Ground Combat Systems, told Janes on 12 August. “Each vendor partnership is independent of government input and has been developed directly from party to party.” Under the competition, the army wants to select a team to outfit Stryker vehicles with 30 mm cannons.   The latest step in the Air Force’s Enterprise IT as a Service plan

  By: Cal Pringle The Air Force is adding another company to its Enterprise IT as a Service experiment, the service announced June 28. Accenture Federal Services, a multinational professional services company, received the third contract for Air Force's Enterprise IT as a Service program and will experiment with delivering computing and storage capabilities as a service to eight Air Force bases, according to the release. The new capabilities will allow the Air Force to use edge cloud computing to expedite data-driven base operations and support artificial intelligence efforts, the release said. Microsoft and AT&T had previously won contracts for the program. The agreement comes as a part of a multi-year modernizing initiative for the Air Force's digital structure, which is meant to improve technologies and delivery models. The Enterprise IT as a Service model allows the Air Force to use commercial companies, which can perform IT services more efficiently than airmen, for day-to-day IT tasks. The eight bases Accenture will support are Buckley Air Force Base in Colorado, Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama., Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska, Joint Base Elemendorf-Richardson in Alaska, Cannon Air Force Base in New Mexico and Hurlburt Field in Florida.
