The Navy awarded Northrop Grumman a cost-only modification valued at $9 million related to its work on a portion of the Navy's premier electronic warfare system.
The award relates to Block 3 of the Surface Electronic Warfare Improvement Program, or SEWIP Block 3, provides ships a scalable electronic warfare enterprise suite with improved electronic attack capabilities.
Last year, the Department of Defense's Inspector General's office found that the $5.7 billion SEWIP was experiencing significant cost overruns that could put the program behind schedule.
Though much of the specific amounts were redacted, the report called the overruns “significant increases” over the budget for the engineering and manufacturing development phase of SEWIP Block 3.
Naval Sea Systems Command on Feb. 12, 2015, awarded the SEWIP Block 3 design and development contract to Northrop Grumman with an option for the EMD phase originally valued at $91.7 million.

Victor Barreira, Istanbul - IHS Jane's Defence Weekly The Brazilian Navy has postponed by about two months the short list and best and final offer (BAFO) decisions for its ambitious Tamandaré-class corvette project, the second leading priority within the force. The newly established schedule calls for the short list and BAFO announcements to occur in October and December respectively, the navy told Jane's on 17 August. The navy said it is delaying its decision because it needs additional information from the competitors to properly analyse the bids. Service officials provided no additional details on what information it still requires. The navy has not said how many companies will be included on the short list. DÉFENSE Safran va fournir des antennes Sparte 700 de télémesure à l'US Air Force Safran Data Systems a été sélectionné par l'US Air Force pour la fourniture d'antennes de poursuite de télémesure de 7 mètres 30. Ces antennes seront installées à partir du second trimestre 2023 sur un site de l'US Air Force situé en Floride. Depuis 2017, plus de 40 antennes ont été livrées aux industriels du secteur aérospatial et aux organismes de la défense américaine par l'entreprise. « Gr'ce à ces antennes de télémesure, Safran démontre sa capacité à fournir des équipements innovants qui participent à l'amélioration et à la modernisation des capacités de tests de l'armée pour soutenir des scénarios d'essais en vol toujours plus nombreux et plus complexes » commente Ray Munoz, président de Safran Data Systems. « Ces dernières années, nous avons considérablement développé nos activités aux États-Unis et nous sommes très fiers de livrer des antennes de télémesure construites, assemblées et testées depuis notre site américain ».
