    Maritime Security Challenges

Announcing MSC20 program change: With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and governmental restrictions and recommendations on travel and public gatherings, The Navy League of Canada, with the support of the Royal Canadian Navy and the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies, has decided to adjust the format of the upcoming Maritime Security Challenges (MSC) conference. The MSC organizers did not take this decision lightly, but given the circumstances, felt that a change to the 2020 program was necessary. This decision is based on the guidance from governmental health officials and our concern for the health and safety of everyone involved. We are pleased to announce that the next in-person MSC meeting will take place on 22-24 March 2022 in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. In the meantime, MSC will begin a series of virtual presentations to ensure a continuous opportunity for connection, engagement and knowledge sharing across the industry. The first of these will take place 20-22 October 2020, the dates originally scheduled for MSC20. A program for the adapted online MSC series will be announced in the coming weeks and will be posted on the MSC website and our social media channels. Please sign up to the MSC mailing list so that you are kept informed of all MSC developments. MSC20 will concentrate on Great Power competition in the Indo-Asia-Pacific, with a particular focus on how middle powers are navigating in this challenging environment. The conference program is now available and MSC20, as ever, will include key networking events such as a daysail on board a RCN Halifax-class frigate, a welcoming reception, and a marquee banquet dinner. Visit the registration and accommodations pages for more information on joining us for MSC20! https://mscconference.com/

Virtual Workshop – Let’s demystify the NATO IT procurement process

NATO is a formidable market that spends, yearly, billions of dollars in acquisitions of all kinds, including some of the latest cybersecurity technologies. However, it appeared that Canadian IT companies are clearly underrepresented in this gigantic market. When we discuss this with our members at In-Sec-M, we also find out that the NATO acquisition process intimidates many ... It is therefore to better understand this process, identify who the key players are and know where to go to seek relevant information that In-Sec-M, the national cluster of the cybersecurity industry, invites you, October 15, from noon to 1 p.m. (EST), in collaboration with NATO and the Department of National Defence, at our first workshop dedicated to demystifying the process of purchasing and acquiring technologies and services related to cybersecurity. A representative from NCIA, NATO's primary C3 capability and cybersecurity provider, will present the structure, explain how to do business with the NCIA, where to gather relevant information and who to contact. The Canadian Defense Liaison Officer at NATO will also be present to explain his role with the Atlantic Alliance. A question-and-answer session will follow. This virtual presentation, open to all Canadian companies and organizations, whether they are members of In-Sec-M or not, will equip participants for the next NITEC, which will also be held virtually on November 4 and 5. NITEC is NATO's big annual event to take stock of its specific needs. A must-have for anyone who wants to register as a supplier with NATO. DATE: October 15, 2020, Noon to 1p.m. EST To Register: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/billets-atelier-in-sec-motan-in-sec-mnato-workshop-for-canadian-companies-123076263417 Any Questions : Contact NICOLAS DUGUAY at (514) 914-2785 or by email: nicolas.duguay@insecm.ca

The CMMC (Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification) Program and what it means for Canadian Defense Firms

The United States Department of Defense (DoD), concerned over the continued loss and compromise of data from its industrial base supply chain has developed a mandatory program to reduce the future risks. In the future, to conduct any business with DoD or DoD primes, a CMMC 3rd party certification will be required. The development of a 3rd party certification program, is quickly moving from infancy towards maturity. The CMMC Accreditation Board (www.CMMCAB.org) is now developing courseware and requirements for up to 10,000 assessor certifiers. Beginning in the first quarter of 2021, member firms of the United States Defense Industrial Base (DIB), including Canadian aerospace and defense firms, are going to have to prepare and achieve CMMC certifications in order to do business with the DoD, either as a prime or subcontractor (no matter which tier). While the program is initially designed to meet the direct needs of the US DIB, those companies ( including foreign enterprises) will eventually be mandated by their US primes to pursue the appropriate level of CMMC certification. There are five (5) maturity levels of certification, so it is important to work with the DoD primes on understanding what level of CMMC is expected, by what time – in order to continue to be a foreign-owned subcontractor working under a US defense prime. It is key for Canadian primesto understand, plan and pursue CMMC certifications to retain current contracts or be awardedfuture DoD opportunities. To gain some insight into the program – timely outreach to the Canadian value chain is considered essential if continuation in the DoD business environment is to be maintained. With over 19 years supporting companies with sales in the military marketplace, the joint venture with 9dot Security Solutions, will allow American Defense Group Inc. to assist Canadian firms to fulfil these new DoD requirements and continue to expand their business within the new cybersecurity stipulations. All of our personnel are retired and former U.S. military officers that includeextensive military cybersecurity operational experience. American Defense Group, Inc. (ADG), a 19 year old, Atlanta Georgia based manufacturer's representative firm, specializing in sales to DoD and the U.S. defense contractor community has teamed with 9dot Security Solutions, also an Atlanta-based defense cybersecurity firm staffed by former U.S. Army Cybersecurity officers to develop an informational presentation to create awareness for Canadian defense contractors and answer any questions in this regard. We will offer this webinar at no cost to Canadian companies, Federal and provincial officials, preferably on provincial association level in order that we can respond in depth to the anticipated questions Reference Websites: www.americandefensegroup.com www.ninedss.com S'INSCRIRE
