    Serco Awarded $162 Million Contract to Support U.S. Navy’s Amphibious Warfare Program Office

    September 30, 2019 - Serco Inc., a provider of professional, technology and management services, announced today that the Company has been awarded a contract to continue its support to the U.S. Navy's Amphibious Warfare Program Office (PMS 377) with a full range of professional support services including Test & Evaluation Program Support, Technical Management Support, Acquisition & Life Cycle Management, and Integrated Logistics Support. This is the first contract award announcement for the Naval Systems business that Serco acquired from Alion Science & Technology Corporation. The recompete contract has a one-year base period plus four one-year option periods and is valued at $162 million, if all options are exercised. The business began providing direct program support to PMS 377 in 2009, and since then the program has grown from 8 personnel to approximately 220 today. Under the contract award, Serco will continue providing services that support the new construction and delivery of Navy amphibious ships and crafts, as well as the entire program lifecycle of four classes of craft, including multi-purpose (LHAR Class) ships, Landing Craft Utility (LCU 1610 and LCU 1700), Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC) and Ship Shore Connector (SSC). Services provided range from concept design and engineering; to program management for production and ship/craft delivery; to fleet support including Ship Life Extension Program (SLEP), regular overhauls and vessel retirement.     Norway selects Kongsberg’s NATO Brand IV Tactical Radio Link

    July 2, 2020 - Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace AS (KONGSBERG) has signed a contract with the Norwegian Defence Material Agency for a new Flexible High Capacity Radio Link (FHCL) for the Norwegian Armed Forces. Deliveries will start in May 2021. The contract is valued at 128 MNOK and requires the delivery of a complete communications solution with KONGSBERG's RL542A as the core component. The radio platform itself was developed by KONGSBERG and will be the centerpiece of the system that also includes antennas, cables, portable equipment and other accessories adapted to the Norwegian Armed Forces' need for use under demanding conditions. The radio is a NATO Band IV radio link with supreme ECCM capabilities and high data rates providing multiple waveforms for both point-to-point as well as point-to-multi-point operations. KONGSBERG has delivered more than 3,800 radio links to 21 countries worldwide and is considered a leading provider of tactical radio communications. KONGSBERG's radio link systems are a key component of NASAMS and Patriot air defence systems, among others.     Saab fait voler une pièce de fuselage d’avion de combat imprimée en 3D

    Le constructeur suédois Saab est parvenu, pour la première fois, à faire voler un avion équipé d'une pièce extérieure imprimée en 3D. L'avionneur utilise la technologie de la fabrication additive depuis quatre ans, notamment pour imprimer des pièces internes, précise L'Usine Nouvelle. La pièce, une trappe située sur le flanc arrière du fuselage de l'appareil, un modèle Gripen, a été imprimée sur la base du scan de la pièce originelle. Parfaitement ajustée à l'avion, elle n'a montré « aucun changement structurel visible après le vol d'essai », assure Hakan Stake, responsable du projet, dans un communiqué. Cette démonstration devrait, à terme, « permettre au personnel sur le terrain d'avoir accès à des pièces de rechange ajustées individuellement, d'éviter les réparations d'urgence ou de cannibaliser un appareil déjà endommagé », souligne-t-il. Il estime par ailleurs que cette solution permettra de réduire le nombre de pièces transportées lors du déploiement d'un appareil et de réduire son temps de réparation. De nombreuses étapes de certification du matériau utilisé, un polyamide 2200, couramment utilisé dans la fabrication additive, sont encore nécessaires avant de déployer la technologie sur le terrain.
