The Government of Canada awards $500,000 in funding to this highly innovative Greater Montréal business
May 21, 2019 – Kirkland, Quebec – Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED) Reflex Photonics is a leader in the design, manufacturing and marketing of electronic optics and photonic products for the defence, aerospace and telecom sectors, and for data centres. It supplies rugged embedded transceivers for interconnection in harsh environments. This highly innovative company has posted impressive growth in recent years; in 2018, it invested over $2 million in research and development.
To help it maintain its momentum, the company has been awarded a $500,000 repayable contribution from Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions. This financial assistance will allow Reflex Photonics to acquire specialized state-of-the-art equipment, including an error rate tester and analysis software, as well as process automation equipment.
The funding was announced today by the Member of Parliament for Lac-Saint-Louis, Francis Scarpaleggia. Specifically, this Government of Canada assistance will allow Reflex Photonics Inc. to meet the growing demand of prime contractors, increase its production and ensure better quality control of its products. With a total investment of almost $2 million, this project will also result in the creation of high-value jobs that will help increase economic opportunities for the middle class.

This initiative aims to support Québec aerospace technology SMEs in the pre-commercialization phase of their innovative products. The SMEs participating in the initiative will be supported through a structured process, with the aim of collaboratively responding to a business opportunity that requires the development of an industrial proof of concept. This initiative will: Promote and accelerate the adoption of breakthrough innovations on the market; Support entrepreneurship and job creation in Canada by enabling SMEs to grow through the commercialization of new products; Boost the presence of Canadian industry internationally through the adoption and export of new and innovative niche technologies. To develop, aerospace SMEs need to increasingly deal with breakthrough technologies, such as digital technologies, metadata, artificial intelligence, and additive manufacturing. Our role is to provide SMEs with effective tools, in collaboration with both levels of government, to encourage them to adopt breakthrough technologies. "Our technology SMEs are still struggling to get past the pre-commercialization phase, which is necessary to ensure their commercial success. January 16, 2019 – Saint-Hubert, Quebec – National Defence / Canadian Armed Forces As outlined in Canada's defence policy, Strong, Secure, Engaged, the Government of Canada is investing in Defence infrastructure to provide our military personnel with modern, functional, and green facilities in which to work and train. Today, Defence Minister Harjit S. Sajjan and Parliamentary Secretary to the Defence Minister Serge Cormier, participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new armoury at the Saint-Hubert Garrison. The project represents a $50-million investment in Reserve infrastructure and provided economic benefits for the local community, creating 230 jobs during construction. The centralized 8,824-m2 facility will co-locate multiple Reserve units and provide personnel with modern administrative spaces, training rooms, an advanced weapons simulator, vehicle and equipment storage areas, common mess facilities, and a fitness centre. Work continues on the renovation of an existing building, as well as the demolition of an aging and obsolete hanger. Completed in December 2018, the new armoury was designed to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Silver standards. It will help Defence reduce greenhouse gas emissions from its buildings and non-military vehicles by 40 percent (from 2005 levels) by 2030, and support the new federal emissions reduction target of 80 percent by 2050.
