Les ventes des 100 plus grands groupes d'armement au monde ont augmenté en 2020
Le chiffre d'affaires des 100 plus grands groupes mondiaux du secteur de la défense a atteint en 2020 un nouveau sommet de 531 Md$ (470 Md€), dont plus de la moitié par les entreprises américaines, selon un rapport de l'Institut international de recherche sur la paix de Stockholm (Sipri) publié lundi 6 décembre. Cela représente une hausse de 1,3% sur un an de leurs ventes d'armement et de services militaires, alors que dans le même temps l'économie mondiale a chuté de plus de 3%, souligne l'organisme de recherche. Derrière les 41 entreprises américaines du top 100 et leur part de 54%, 26 sociétés européennes ont comptabilisé 21% des ventes totales. Suivent la Chine (13% du total, avec 5 entreprises) et la Russie (5%, 9 entreprises). En comptant séparément les pays européens, la Chine est le deuxième pays et le Royaume-Uni le troisième (7 entreprises, 7,1%), devant la Russie (9 sociétés, 5%) et la France (6 entreprises, 4,7%). « La progression de la Chine comme un producteur majeur d'armement a été tirée par sa volonté de devenir plus auto-dépendante dans sa production et du fait de programmes ambitieux de modernisation » de ses armées, souligne le Sipri.

NGA looking to academia and industry to boost research efforts
Nathan Strout The National-Geospatial-Intelligence Agency issued a new Broad Agency Announcement July 6, giving researchers and academics a new pathway to present intelligence solutions to the agency. NGA is responsible for delivering geospatial-intelligence to war fighters, policy makers and the intelligence community. Under this announcement, the agency is looking for solutions from industry and academia to help them accomplish that mission. “The release of this BAA will help accelerate our research endeavors and provide NGA with the ability to expand and diversify its research performer base, while giving us better flexibility and agility in research contracting efforts,” said Cindy Daniell, director of research and NGA, in a statement. The BAA is seeking research and development concepts that address one or more of the following topics: Foundational GEOINT; advanced phenomenologies, and analytic technologies. Foundational GEOINT - The creation of always accurate, high-resolution, continually updated representations of the earth's properties, available on demand. Advanced Phenomenologies - The use of novel methods and efficient strategies to deliver spatially, spectrally and temporally resolved data from a growing number of traditional and non-traditional sources. Analytic Technologies - The ability to leverage new data sources and new analytics techniques to add geospatial intelligence to multi-intelligence analytics in an effort to address emerging threats and mission domains. More details on each technical domain can be found in the BAA. According to the announcement, NGA plans to make multiple awards, which may take the form of procurement contracts, grants, cooperative agreements or other transactions for prototypes and follow-on production. The agency will be issuing response dates for individual topic areas within the three stated technical domains periodically. Army signs $87 million deal for latest tank killer
Mike Glenn The Army signed an $87 million deal with Saab to arm its soldiers with the latest version of the Swedish manufacturing company's powerful 84mm bunker-busting, Carl-Gustaf anti-tank weapon. The seven-year contract calls for Saab to provide an indefinite number of the shoulder-fired weapons, designated as M3E1, to the military. They will be used by the Army, Marine Corps and elements of U.S. Special Operations Command, company officials said. “The lightweight and effective recoilless rifle ensures readiness on the modern battlefield with multi-role capabilities through a wide array of munitions,” Erik Smith, president and CEO of Saab in the U.S., said in a statement. The latest version of the Carl-Gustaf is 28 percent lighter than its predecessor. The system has been popular with U.S. troops as a combined anti-tank, anti-personnel weapon system since it was first fielded in the late 1980s.
